Ensemble O

Four voices, one organism - moving between improvisation, individuality, and collective sonic force.
The experimental vocal ensemble is shaped by the compositions of Dora Osterloh.

Her works treat four female voices as a single instrument: they speak and scream, decide and experiment. Improvisation has its space. Texts shift between semantic meaning and pure sound. The individual chases the collective - and is caught by it.

The members of the ensemble are all singers from Berlin’s young jazz scene. Their artistic personalities and soloistic qualities merge into a unique, unified sonic body.

DORA OSTERLOH
The Berlin-based German jazz musician, singer, and composer studied jazz voice in Maastricht and Dresden and is active in the contemporary jazz and improvisation scene. She founded the experimental vocal ensemble Ensemble O and works across various projects in which she performs her own compositions.

LAURA WINKLER
An Austrian jazz singer, composer, and bandleader based in Berlin, she studied jazz voice and composition and has led the band Holler My Dear for many years. She has released numerous albums of original music and also composes for theatre, dance, and contemporary ensembles.

FRIEDE MERZ
A Berlin-based German singer, songwriter, and guitarist working across genres including jazz, indie pop, and folk. She performs with her own bands and projects, has released several EPs, toured internationally, and received funding for recording and producing her music.

ANNA-LUCIA RUPP
A German singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist who creates genre-crossing music between jazz, folk, pop, and electronics in projects such as Olicía and others. She has released several albums and EPs, works as a live musician and vocal teacher, and regularly collaborates with international artists such as Sophie Hunger.
